Still Connectic
If you're reading this, then you're probably a fitness enthusiast like I am. I am a sun-loving, endorphin chasing hippie! But, really. I believe in the power of plants, and I believe in disconnecting from devices and connecting with people. I think . . . no, actually I know that at least 30 minutes a day of real movement can change your life! If you don’t believe me, try it!
However, the first thing that I want to be clear about before we embark on this journey is that I am not a personal trainer or a healthcare professional. By that, I mean that while I did complete the personal training program through NASM, I have not kept my certification current, nor is that the plan in the future. I also do not personally see clients. I discovered pretty early on that I didn’t want to be that involved. It took me a little time to come to terms with it, but I finally made peace with the fact that I took that course solely for my benefit. I started using exercise to manage my anxiety disorder and seasonal depression. Soon, it became evident to me that fitness and wellness were forever going to be an integral part of my life. After a few years of seeing a trainer myself, I decided that it was more beneficial for me to know, create my programming, and to attack my goals at my own pace. Because I was using fitness as medicine, I wanted to be able to workout anywhere, anytime unassisted. My appearance was not, is not and will never be my focus. I do not work out for the aesthetics of it. I believe aesthetics is a poor motivator, and it rarely leads to long term success. Commonly, body image as a motivator leads to poor habits and self-destructive behavior such as overtraining, under-eating, and insufficient rest. I work out for the clarity, stress relief, and overall wellness benefits it promotes. To get the most out of my journey, I started taking classes. I have read articles, studies, and books on fitness, health, and nutrition. I also regularly surround myself with some pretty knowledgeable people in the health and wellness industry. I have an extensive list of resources and experts that I plan to share with you. My hope is to share all my knowledge with you, genuinely believing that now, more than ever, people are taking back their power. People are reclaiming their time, being more mindful about how and where they spend their money and are being more in tune with their bodies and overall health. I’ll be the first to say I am here for ALL of it!
I am hoping that Connectic Fitness will create a community! A community where we can share our experiences, ideas, and knowledge. We are in a time like no other. We can challenge our beliefs, search for truth, demand better, and change our reality! There used to be a time when the information we were searching for was hard to come by, and the best way to get answers was to seek out “professionals,” but even that was limited to your network and the area in which you live. In today’s world, technology has brought everything we desire to know right at our fingertips. In my quest, I have found so much in my ‘community’. I have been able to learn more about how others live, eat, and thrive. I’ll be here telling you everything I know about it from a variety of perspectives and I hope that this blog and the Connectic Fitness community educates you, inspires you, motivates you, and cheers you on. NOW is our time!
